What one sentence could you say to a JW that would stick with them?
by AlmostAtheist inyou've probably heard sentences that stuck with you.
quotes, one-liners.
you hear them and they make so much sense or touch you so personally at the time that they become part of you.

Just wait a bit...some errant dub is bound to just find the book and rate it without even reading it. So common. Indeed!

Hello to all, and thanks for your kindness...
by james_woods injames here; exjw for about 25 years.
was "in" from 1963 to 1980 due to parental "guidance" beyond my own good sense.. have been to elder school, bethel, wthq, etc..., knew many of franz heretics in the mid-late 70 trouble from oklahoma city.. have many silly stories to offer...but for now just will say this - .
if your "god" was really going to come down here and kill everybody on earth except for the wt people who the society liked, would you not stand up to fly the first fighter jet against such a horrible alien?.

How the Internet Means 'The End' for Apostates and Opposers of the Society
by slimboyfat inthe received wisdom is that the internet has dramatically damaged the ability of the watchtower society to gain and retain followers.
there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.
in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

To me the internet has been a very very powerful microscope. I was not only able to view the scratches in the "diamond" of the society, but It magnified it so well that I was able to see clearly that it was'nt a diamond after all. Just a labratory made piece of costume jewerly.

HALLOWEEN! What's cool or fun about celebrating?
by Now What? inthis is my first halloween as a free man .
so i looked up the word halloween and discovered some really cool things.
for instance, the word comes from "all hallows eve", because of being the night before the feast of martyrs (all saints day).

Im not knocking the ones who celebrate. But being around much death lately, I just can't see the fun in the macabre. Just a fuddy duddy I guess.
Happy Halloween.
